Characteristics Of  Fabaceae Family:- 

The Fabaceae family is a large family of the plant kingdom , including several economically important plants. The family Fabaceae is also known as Leguminosae or Papilionaceae since it belongs to the pea or legume family. Plants of this family are herb, bushes, plants, or moving by twining. The root has knobs that have nitrogen-fixing organisms (rhizobium) and regularly non protein amino acids are found. Leaves are generally pinnatus and are spirally organized and individual pamphlets are advanced flowers are normally sexually unbiased, petals . Petals are large five in number. This is imbricate or basally connate, standard, and normally valvate. The  androecium is with one to various stamens however typically ten, concealed by perianth . monodelphous or diadelphous .Gynoecium of one carpel ovary  parietal placentation. Ovules are anatropous to campylotropous, normally vegetables.

Habitat:-   Usually grows naturally in open forest but also found in monsoon forest and closed forests . Widely cultivated throughout , particularly in areas with a marked dry season. Terrestrial (Coastal Forest), Shoreline,Tropical, Sub-Tropical.

Distribution:- Native to Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia to northern Australia,India.

Status:-  Critically Endangered (CR)

Plant Description:- 

A deciduous tree with a girth of up to 1 m and grows to 35 m tall. It is fast growing.Tree form, umbrella-shaped with an open crown density. 

Leaves are bipinnate, 30-60cm long, with 16-20 pinnae. Oval leaflets, each 0.8-2.5cm long .

 Flowers are a bright yellow and grow in clusters on upright stalks.copper-red seedpods cover the tree in profusion.

Uses Of Plants:- 

  1. The elegant yellow flowers of Peltophorum pterocarpum makes it an ornamental tree.

  2. Bark can also be used as dyes as it contains tannins. 

  3. Leaves has anti-microbial properties.
